Stretch Armstrong & Bobbito return to WKCR-FM

Exciting news on Twitter last night…

Unfortunately, I have a feeling that it has something to do with the recent announcement that the Squeeze Radio Show is to be cancelled, with the last show to be broadcast at 1am this coming Friday morning. I am not all that familiar with this show, hosted by Sucio Smash, but have listened avidly to the old Stretch Armstrong and Bobbito Show tapes I have been able to get my hands on. During their slot on WKCR, Stretch & Bob played host to many then unsigned hip hop artists who would go on become household names, including Nas, Big L, Wu Tang, and Busta Rhymes. Bobbito also founded the Fondle ‘Em record label which put out some incredible records during the late 90s/early 00s. Sadly, it looks like this will just be a one-off special, but then there is plenty of material from their old show to listen to…

It is always a shame to see this sort of thing happen, especially when it signals the end of such a significant show. You can sign the petition to save the Squeeze Radio Show here. Come 1am on Friday morning (or 6am GMT), you will need to click here to stream the show live. I will also do my best to find and post up a recording of the show later for anyone who misses it. The ridiculous Stretch and Bob tape collection photo comes courtesy of Grandgood.

Update: Sadly, it turns out that the Squeeze Radio Show has in fact been taken off the air. The reasons why this decision has been made are outlined in this article, along with further details of what is to come on WKCR. There are also contact details for WKCR if you want to let them know how you feel about the situation. Stretch Armstrong and Bobbito are on the air for a special one-off reunion show to fill the slot.
