If you could bottle and sell uncertainty, Gregory Crewdson would be handling the advertising campaign for it. His meticulously arranged photos have an uncanny, film noir quality and nod back to Edward Hopper’s paintings of 40s and 50s America. It is almost as if Crewdson has just picked his favourite individual frames out a David Lynch movie.
There is a suggestion of what might be going on in the scene, but Crewdson leaves you to fill in the blanks. The filmic quality of the photos is achieved by using crew and equipment usually associated with shooting a motion picture. For more photos and a short bio on Gregory Crewdson, check out White Cube.
