Nike SB Dunk Hi ‘Statue of Liberty’

Nike is bringing a little innovation (and a little irony) to the ubiquitous SB Dunk this Spring with their tribute to the Statue of Liberty. When you purchase the shoe it appears as above, boasting a smooth sea green upper atop a sail and beige sole with subtle Statue of Liberty branding on the tongue tag. However (and this is where Nike shows they have a sense of humour) once you have skated your SB Dunk you will begin to see new layers emerge, mimicking the ageing exterior of the Statue of Liberty herself. As you can see below, the oxidised green outer first gives way to a copper layer followed by silvery raw metal. The fact that there are rumours floating about that these sneaks could be a Quickstrike release makes me wonder if any of them will end up actually being skated, but the effect is pretty cool. These should see a release over the next couple of months at select Nike SB accounts. Via NSB.

  1. You know I’m going to try really hard to get these. And I’ve already decided to use sandpaper to reach my desired level of aging fading…
